Tempered Glass - Tempered Glass is actually a heat treated silicon glass mix, that has been super cooled to crystallize the glass molecules. Tempered glass has a thermo shock rating of about 500 degrees, if the tempered glass is exposed to temperatures exceeding this the temper decays. Temper decay can cause the glass to explode outward away from the heat. If the glass is hot when this occurs it could be very hazardous and damaging. If tempered glass has been exposed to temperatures over 500 degrees F, the glass can rupture at any time for no reason. Tempered glass is safety glass when it breaks, it falls into small square pieces, unless large amounts of temper has been removed due to excess heat. Tempered Glass is available in 3 general thickness 1/8, 3/16, 1/4" . It comes in a full array of tints, Clear, Light and Dark Grey, Light and Dark Bronze, Silver or Gold Mirror, Black, and other custom colors. If you are replacing one piece of many and it is not clear, it is highly unlikely that the color of the new glass will not match the older pieces. When tempered glass is ordered it will be cut first then tempered, this process requires about 2 weeks order time. After tempered glass is ordered, cut and tempered no physical modifications can be made to the glass piece. Polished edges, hole drilled, is available at additional cost. For a quote please provide the exact size, color, and if it requires polished edges ect. Payment in full is required before order, and cannot be subject to any refunds. Tempered glass is the least expensive of all the above materials.
